Are you Baby Superstitious?
I come from a long line of superstitious people on my side of the family – I say my side of the family because my husband laughs at me. Regardless of his laughter, we will not be cutting our baby’s hair before she is a year old no matter how out of control it gets – its bad luck. We also do our best to ward off the evil eye or bad intentions by having her wear an Azabache charm (seen here below).
I have had many discussions lately with other moms about this and notice that many other cultures worry about the same things when it comes to their children. The Italians have “the horn” or “horns”. The Turkish wear the Blue Eye to ward off the evil eye. It actually made me feel good that I am not the only one who hears about these things from her family. We are not alone!
Hopefully this blog brings some comfort to those of you out there who have a similar line of thinking and worry. I would love to hear from you – or anyone who has a comment for or against these traditional and cultural superstitions.

lol, I did the same thing I cut both my boys hair when they turned one and for the first year they wore the Azavache….
I have to get them one now for a chain or something lol
I’m glad i’m not the only one doing this now a days…. I wonder if my sister will do the same? ummmm

That’s why it’s called tradition I guess. In our baby pictures-my siblings and I are all wearing our Azabache braclets.
So naturally, when I had my first child, I didn’t have even purchase one, my aunt came to the hospital with one! Gabriel got to wear it for a few days but my husband thought it was silly. So I pinned it to his bassinet.
As for the baby hair, no cutting allowed until after a year. It’s such a turning point moment cutting the hair that I waited longer. I want to hold on as long as I can.
